The 2021 Hyundai Elantra represents a significant upgrade over the previous-generation model and in this video from the automaker itself, we get a fresh up-close look at the car.
The compact model that is sold in some markets as the i30 Sedan, adopts the brand’s ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design language that brings with it a series of sharp and many would say, convoluted lines and creases to make the Elantra stand out on the road. This is particularly evident with the overhauled front fascia that includes a distinctive grille, hidden turn signals, and LED headlights.
The same styling approach continues at the rear where there’s a mix of black and chrome elements as well as an LED light bar stretching between the taillights. No doubt, it looks more distinct than the model it replaces, but at the same time, there’s no denying that it has an overly busy exterior design.

There are also a host of new technologies found within the 2021 Elantra. For starters, drivers no longer need to use a traditional key fob to open and operate the car and can instead use a smartphone application or an NFC key card, much like the Tesla Model 3.
The interior has also been radically overhauled and now sports a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster and a 10.25-inch infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Optional features include a wireless smartphone charger and a high-end Bose audio system with eight-speakers. An ambient lighting system with 64 different colors is also present.
In the U.S., the 2021 Hyundai Elantra will be sold with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine offering up 147 hp and 132 lb-ft (179 Nm) of torque. This engine is connected to an intelligent variable transmission, Hyundai’s version of a CVT. There’s also a hybrid version with a 1.6-liter GDI Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder , an electric motor and a 1.32 kWh lithium-ion battery pack producing a combined output of up to 139 hp (104 kW / 141 PS) and 195 lb-ft (264 Nm) of torque.
Pricing details for either version have yet to be announced.
