The Polestar Precept Electric Concept Previews Brand’s First SUV

A host of new details about the Polestar Precept electric concept have been released by the carmaker after the vehicle’s ill-fated debut at the canceled Geneva Motor Show.

The design of the Precept Concept offers us a preview of the company’s next model, the Polestar 3. Admittedly, that model will take the form of an SUV which will borrow many of the key design elements of the stylish Precept sedan.

“People ask me all the time, ‘what is the future of Polestar?’,” Polestar chief executive Thomas Ingenlath says of the Precept’s design. “Of course we are not showing our future models just yet, but Precept shows you where we will be heading – our design direction, our ambitions about sustainability and the great digital user experience we will bring with those future cars. Precept showcases our future, not as a fancy dream or something out of a sci-fi movie. This is our reality, to come,” the CEO added.

At the front, the Polestar Precept incorporates sharp LED headlights and daytime running lights, offering an interesting new take on the ‘Thor’s hammer’ design used by current Polestar and Volvo models. Also featured are 22-inch forged wheels, a roof-mounted LIDAR pod, various high gloss and matte surfaces, and LED lights on the C-pillars to indicate charging status. Other striking aspects of the Precept’s design are the flush door handles and rear suicide doors. There are also no B-pillars.

The interior is equally as modern as the exterior. There is an evolution of the Android-powered infotainment system first used by the Polestar 2, eye-tracking monitors, and sleek-looking seats. Many of the parts used by the concept have also been designed to be as sustainable as possible. For example, there are vegan materials, including seat covers that are 3D-knitted from 100 per cent recycled PET bottles.
