It seems that someone didn’t read our recent used Maserati Ghibli story, where we explained how cheap it is to buy one nowadays. Instead, they managed to ruin a perfectly good Mazda CX-4 in an attempt to make it look like a Levante of sorts.

What’s even more ironic is that in China, the CX-4 is priced from roughly 150,000 yuan ($21,000), which is nearly as much as what you’d spend on a used Ghibli in the United States.

Then again, as CarNewsChina points out, the Levante does have a base price of 962,000 yuan ($136,000), so if you want your Maserati brand new, you definitely can’t swing that if you’ve only got Mazda-money in your pocket.

In any case, there’s little to no excuse for this type of mod. We only find it interesting because of the curiosity factor, but in the end, this car isn’t fooling anybody, not even from a distance.

The grille sort of mirrors the shape of the one found on the Levante, but it doesn’t seem to be as wide. As for the body-color front bumper design, it looks like it belongs on a BMW M Sport model.

Other mods include the thicker wheel arches, the for-some-reason chrome design rear window wiper, side skirts and a custom rear bumper with a chunky diffuser and quad exhaust pipes. And yeah, we’re pretty sure the carbon fiber is fake.

Interestingly enough, there’s a ‘Mazda Speed’ badge on the tailgate, put together using Maserati lettering.
