Manuals transmissions are becoming increasingly rare and many drivers don’t know how to use them.
Hyundai seems to be acknowledging the latter as they’ve taken to social media to announce the Veloster N will soon be offered with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The company didn’t say much about the option, but the promotional video shows the DCT will be offered on 2020 models and include steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

There’s no word on how much the gearbox will cost, but the option is notable as the Veloster N is currently available exclusively with a six-speed manual. The new transmission should help to increase the appeal of the hot hatch as it means anyone will be able to drive it.
Despite getting a new gearbox, we can expect a familiar turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 250 hp (186 kW / 253 PS) and 260 lb-ft (352 Nm) of torque. The model is also available with a performance package that increases the output to 275 hp (205 kW / 279 PS). The package also includes an electronic limited-slip differential, a variable exhaust value system, beefier brakes and 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero summer tires.
The 2020 Hyundai Veloster N starts at $27,600 in the United States and the aforementioned performance package is a $2,100 option. The model also comes nicely equipped with LED lighting units, sport seats and an 8-speaker Infinity audio system. Other highlights include an 8-inch infotainment system, alloy pedals and a proximity key with a push button ignition.
