2020 MG6 Gets A Sportier Face And Upgraded Engine In China

MG Motor unveiled the current-generation MG6 back in September of 2017, based on the same architecture as the Roewe i6. It was powered by either a petrol or a hybrid powertrain and featured relatively modern exterior and interior designs.

Seen as how it’s been three and a half years, it was only natural for MG to go and update the 6, and thanks to Chinese outlet Xincheping, we now know a little bit about the new model.

For starters, the 2020 MG6 will come with this new and considerably sharper front fascia, featuring restyled headlights with new graphics, a blacked-out honeycomb grille (for the spec pictured here at least) which also happens to be wider, a redesigned bumper and a larger badge.

At the back, we see two large circular tailpipes, a new bumper design and a small ducktail for the trunk lid. Speaking of which, the above image suggests that you’ll also be able to spec the updated MG6 with an optional fixed rear wing, which doesn’t make a great deal of sense on this type of car, but to each his own.

Then there are the power units, with the 1.5 turbocharged gasoline engine now producing a little more power. Before the update, the mill would put down 166 HP (168 PS), whereas now it will give you 12 more, at around 178 HP (180 PS).

There’s no word on the plug-in hybrid unit yet, although if nothing changes, then we’ll still be looking at a 1.0-liter gasoline engine setup, backed by an electric motor. Together they generate a combined 224 HP (228 PS), as well as 458 lb-ft (622 Nm) of torque.

MG should unveil the updated 6 within the next few months.
