Evidently, this is not an apples-to-apples comparison, but rather an interesting way of promoting Hennessey’s HPE900 upgrade kit for the Audi R8 Spyder, using a finished customer car.
For us, it’s a good way of seeing it in action, against a stock Lamborghini Huracan Spyder, which is basically a very similar vehicle underneath the more exotic-looking skin. So, want to talk numbers? Okay.

Both of them feature a 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10, although with the added package that includes, among others, a pair of turbochargers, the R8 deploys a staggering 912 HP at the crank. The Texas tuner claims that they have measured the output at the wheels as well, recording 750 horsepower. The added oomph allows it to rocket from nought to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 2.6 seconds and run the quarter mile in just under 10 seconds with an exit speed of 145 mph (233 km/h).
Compared to the stock R8 Performance, which goes to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.1 seconds and tops out at 205 mph (331 km/h), the tuned model is around 300 HP more powerful. The regular Huracan Spyder boasts 601 HP from the same power unit and can complete the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 3.4 seconds, with a 201 mph (324 km/h) top speed.
Looking at the numbers show that the R8 was already holding the high ground compared to its Italian cousin, even before it was tuned. So, was it worth the investment? That’s for you to decide after watching the video that shows the two supercars going head to head from a rolling start, because laying down the extra power would have been challenging for the R8.
