The bizarre 1989 Ford Mustang GT Convertible you’re looking at is for sale on eBay with a $14,995 ‘Buy It Now’ price but we have a sneaking suspicion that it could prove quite a hard sell.
The third-generation Mustang, also known as the Foxbody, is one of the more distinctive iterations of the famed pony car, but for whatever reason, the owner of this particular example thought they could do a better job than Ford’s designers and have decided to make it look more like a fifth-generation Mustang.
Found up front is a ‘custom’ fiberglass fascia incorporating circular headlights and a unique nose. The car also sports an aftermarket hood while at the rear end there are vertical taillights and dual tailpipes. Making the car look more kitschy than it already did is a white paint scheme with silver racing stripes.

As odd as the bodywork is, the powertrain actually seems quite desirable as the V8 has been stroked and now produces 350 hp at the wheels. Key modifications made to the engine include new pistons, ARP bolts, Edelbrock RPM heads, an Edlebrock intake, Roller rocker arms, aluminum 4 core racing radiator, and a custom 2.5-inch exhaust.
Lots of other alterations have been made including a Hurst short-throw shifter and enlarged brakes. There are also Koni coilovers and a host of other new suspension parts.
With 49,900 miles (80,306 km) on the clock and so many performance-focused upgrades, the asking price seems quite reasonable. However, we suspect most would-be buyers will be put off by the bodywork and we don’t blame them.
