Update: Toyota told CarScoops that they will present the new B-SUV on April 23. “Indeed we will unveil this vehicle on 23rd April, in a digital way”, said a spokesperson.

Toyota was supposed to reveal the Yaris-based SUV at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show last month, but the cancellation of the event left the presentation of the new vehicle hanging in the air.

Shortly after the Swiss car event got cancelled, it was reported that the B-segment SUV’s unveiling was pushed back by “weeks or months”, and it looks like that day may have finally come. According to Autonocion, it will be unveiled tomorrow, April 23.

The report does not reveal the source of the information, but Toyota confirmed to CarScoops that the information is correct, and the new B-SUV will be presented online on April 23.

As for the actual car, it will be much more than a jacked-up version of the new-gen Yaris with plastic cladding and other small mods. At the beginning of the year when the new model was confirmed, Toyota Europe’s Executive VP, Matthew Harrison, said it would be “an entirely new and distinctive B-SUV model” that will have “a compact, dynamic design and a personality of its own”.

While the official name of the vehicle has yet to be made public, it will be built on the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) GA-B platform, like the Yaris subcompact hatchback. This means it will slot under the C-HR, which has GA-C underpinnings, challenging the likes of the Nissan Juke, Peugeot 2008, Opel/Vauxhall Mokka and others. Unlike some of its rivals, it will feature an all-wheel drive system and will also pack a hybrid powertrain.

Later on, Toyota’s small car family will also welcome a jacked-up version of the Yaris, believed to be called the Yaris Cross, which will take on the Ford Fiesta Active.
