The McLaren Speedtail is one heck of a machine and with customer deliveries recently kicking off, the British car manufacturer has offered us a hint of what it’s like to drive the company’s flagship Ultimate Series model.
This particular video acts as the latest episode in McLaren’s Tech Club series and features Jonathan Beaumont, the vehicle line manager for the Ultimate Series.
Thanks to the car’s central driving position, the symmetrical design of the interior, and the glass-house roof, Beaumont says driving the Speedtail is really like being in a fighter jet. Hearing automakers draw similarities between their flagship performance cars and fighter jets is nothing new but given the shape and design of the Speedtail, the comparison is especially pertinent.

Driving the car is a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine with 746 hp and 590 lb-ft (799 Nm) of torque. This ferocious engine is aided by an electric motor with 308 hp and 256 lb-ft (347 Nm), providing the hypercar with a total of 1,035 hp and 858 lb-ft (1,149 Nm). This makes it incredibly quick. In fact, the McLaren Speedtail can sprint to 186 mph (300 km/h) from a standstill in just 12.8 seconds before topping out at 250 mph (403 km/h).
The first Speedtail was delivered to its owner in mid-March by McLaren Brussels. It was painted in a lovely shade of purple from McLaren Special Operations that suits the aerodynamic shape of the hypercar to a tee.
Just 106 examples are being built worldwide with prices starting at $2.25 million.
