Audi has electrified the new A6 Avant with the unveiling of the 55 TFSI e quattro.

Joining the plug-in hybrid sedan that debuted half a year ago, it packs the same powertrain that comprises a 2.0-liter TFSI petrol engine and an electric motor integrated into the seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic. The ICE pumps out 252 PS (248 HP / 185 kW) and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft) of torque, and the motor delivers 143 PS (141 HP / 105 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft).

As a result, the executive estate from Ingolstadt has a peak usable output of 367 PS (362 HP / 270 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft). The car is 0.1 seconds slower to 100 km/h (62 mph) than the sedan, covering the benchmark sprint in 5.7 seconds, while the top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph) – or 135 km/h (84 mph) in the electric-only mode.

With the rear-mounted 14.1 kWh battery fully charged, the EV range is rated at 51 km (32 miles) and the combined fuel consumption is 2.1-1.9 l/100 km (112-123.8 mpg US) – as per WLTP. Besides the ‘EV’ mode, the Audi A6 Avant 55 TFSI e quattro also features ‘Hybrid’ and ‘Hold’ driving modes, with the former offering the best performance and the latter conserving the energy available.

The A6 Avant 55 TFSI e quattro offers a reduced boot space of 405 liters (14.3 cu-ft) and a flat loading floor. With the rear seats folded down, the cargo capacity increases up to 1,535 liters (54.2 cu-ft). Like its four-door sibling, the plug-in hybrid wagon also packs the S Line exterior package, black details on the side mirror casings, rear privacy glass, Matrix LED headlights, 19-inch alloy wheels, red brake calipers and sport suspension. The sports seats, Audi Virtual Cockpit digital gauges and four-zone climate control are also included.

Pricing for the A6 Avant 55 TFSI e Quattro starts at €71,940 ($77,832) in Germany, €3,090 ($3,343) more than the four-door model.
