A little over a decade ago, Chevrolet unveiled the stunning Stingray concept at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show.
Designed to represent the “iconic legacy and an exciting future” for the Corvette, the concept was an instant hit and some of its design cues were incorporated into the seventh-generation sports car.
While the concept was impressive by itself, the model is probably best known for appearing as Sideswipe in Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen. The movie grossed nearly a billion dollars at the box office and spawned interest in a production version of the concept.

Since Chevrolet wouldn’t build the car, that task fell to the aftermarket with some decidedly mixed results. We first featured a replica when it surfaced on eBay a decade ago with a buy it now price of $42,500. That listing noted the car was “BUILT BY A PROFESSIONAL CAR BUILDER….. NOT SOME KID IN HIS GARAGE.” It also said “Take a close look and you will see the difference.”
We’re still looking all these years later and we still can’t believe what we’re seeing. Three replicas were reportedly built by the unnamed professional and another surfaced in 2016 with an asking price of $39,900. That same car now appears to be up for grabs once again.
2009 Chevrolet Stingray concept
Looking as oddball as ever, this customized Corvette has a little over 33,800 miles (54,396 km) on it. Of course, the biggest changes are modified fascias which recall the Stingray concept. While the hood is fairly decent, those headlights are still comically small. The four-tailpipe exhaust system also pales in comparison to the one used on the concept.
It’s even worse in the interior as the only changes are a Stingray-branded steering wheel and a trashy dashboard cover emblazoned with “Stingray Corvette.”
Despite being ugly as sin and needing some work, the car has already received 22 bids. As of this writing, it’s going for $9,900 but the reserve hasn’t been met.
