The 718 Cayman GT4 RS is likely Porsche’s most anticipated car this year, at least for purists.
We’re glad to report the track-focused sports car has evolved to the next stage of its testing schedule as it has been spotted on the Nürburgring Nordschleife once again. There are few cars that look more at home on the Green Hell, the natural habitat for a sharp track weapon like the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS.
This prototype was spotted covering some very quick laps; our photographers reckon it looked significantly faster than the regular Cayman GT4.

Compared to the previous sighting in Sweden, the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS prototype features the same camouflage but has reverted to the swan neck type rear wing again. Furthermore, it has ditched the center-lock wheels for a regular set of rims, and the cooling vents in the front hood are uncovered again.
Speaking about cooling, the louvers that replace the rear side windows are still in place as they provide extra breathing air to the mid-mounted engine. It looks like Porsche is testing the 718 Cayman GT4 RS in various configurations to decide what will eventually be fitted to the production car.
Extreme aerodynamic package aside, the Cayman GT4 RS’ party piece is the naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine that’s expected to deliver more power than in the ‘regular’ 718 Cayman GT4. The big question is how much, given that the latter boasts a respectable 414 HP (420 PS / 309 kW).
Most sources seem to agree with a figure of 444 HP (450 PS / 330 kW), which would make it a fearsome opponent even for the upcoming Porsche 911 GT3, given the Cayman’s lower mass. Expect the range-topping 718 Cayman to debut sometime this year, although an exact date is anyone’s guess.
