When you think about iconic American two-door coupes from the 80s, they don’t always need to be KITT replicas or Trans Ams in general. In fact, few were as popular back then as the IROC Camaro, named after the International Race of Champions.

The IROC-Z was offered as an option package on the Z/28 model in 1985, the same year as this car, which is getting auctioned off through Bring a Trailer with 15,000 miles (24,000 km) on the clock.

What makes the IROC-Z package special is the upgraded suspension, lowered ride height, different shocks, larger diameter sway bars, the decals and an optional tuned port injection system courtesy of the Chevy Corvette – which this car has.

The exterior is finished in silver with red and black IROC-Z graphics and stripes. It also has 15-inch alloy wheels, removable glass T-top panels, plus an integrated rear spoiler and front fog lights, while T-top storage bags are included in the trunk.

Interior amenities include the grey cloth seats with matching carpets, power windows, Delco AM/FM stereo and a leather-wrapped steering wheel for good measure.

When new, the IROC-Z’s 305 c.i 5.0-liter V8 TPI engine was factory rated at 215 HP, sending everything to the rear wheels using a four-speed automatic transmission. It wasn’t fast nor slow, with a zero to 60 mph (96 km/h) acceleration time of around 7 seconds.

While the paint could use some work in certain areas, this car appears to be in pretty good shape overall. Still, would you get it over the equivalent Trans Am?
