Unless you’ve been living under a rock these past few years, you’ve probably noticed that in terms of design language, BMW is taking a bolder – but not necessarily prettier approach.
From the new 1-Series to the 8-Series Gran Coupe or even the X7 and the updated 7-Series, it’s all about making a bigger statement (as if to prove something). The upcoming brand new 2-Series Active Tourer will likely keep that trend going, albeit not as loud as other more expensive models..
The 2-Series Active Tourer was BMW’s first-ever compact MPV, and while it shared the 2-Series moniker with the rest of the range, it was actually built on the UKL2 platform, shared with the Mini Countryman.

This new model is expected to ride on an updated version of that same platform, while also growing in size, since the 7-seater Gran Tourer variant won’t be making a comeback.
So what will it end up looking like? Well, these renderings courtesy of Kolesa looks pretty close, judging by all the latest spy images. They depict the small minivans’s more angular shoulder line and revised greenhouse, door mounted mirrors, new headlight design (based on cutouts), seemingly larger grille and overall taillight shape.
As you can see, BMW has infused the new 2-Series Active Tourer with a little “X1” crossover styling, though here at least, it still has minivan traits, mostly because of the shorter, upward-sloping hood design, which is typical for this category of vehicle.

We’ve also been able to peak inside some of these new Active Tourer prototypes, which feature a new dashboard design with dual displays for the infotainment system and gauge cluster. Meanwhile, the steering wheel is also new, while the gear selector is more compact.
BMW should unveil the all-new 2-Series Active Tourer later this year.
