It is never a pleasant moment when a neighbor rings your doorbell to complain about a problem you may or may not have something to do with.

Imagine the surprise of a Chicago, Illinois resident called Michael Markus when a female neighbor he claims to have never seen before came to his door to say the 1965 Chevrolet Nova SS he owns is too loud. This happened on a Saturday afternoon on February 20, 2020 as Markus was working on his car.

In the footage taken by the video doorbell, we can see the woman introducing herself and immediately starting to complain about the ‘orange car’ being so loud that the windows of her house rattle.

When she asks if it’s necessary for the car to be that loud, the owner replies: “Well, that’s how the car is, it’s a race car. It’s gonna be like that every time I go in and out.” The answer clearly did not go down well with the neighbor, who threatened Markus with “other means of intervention.”

This did not faze the Chevrolet Nova SS owner, who said he can’t just dump a car he spent $40,000 on because he wants to have fun driving it to work and back every day. “The lady asked if I can store it elsewhere or not even turn it on because it bothers her. I disagreed and said I will drive it to and from work whether she likes it or not,” said the car’s owner. The heated exchange continued but remained polite and has become viral on social media.

According to the owner, “she left with nothing accomplished” as he still takes the car to work and back. He also says he has never seen her since. Now, we’re not going pass judgment here because, for one, we don’t have all the facts and two, as petrol heads, hearing an angry V8 is music to our ears. However, a question needs to be asked: is it okay to daily drive a “race car” from and to a residential neighborhood?

We’d like to hear your thoughts but not before you watch a second video which shows just how much noise the 1965 Chevy Nova SS makes.
