During the most recent season of Top Gear, Chris Harris had the opportunity to put the Porsche Taycan Turbo S through its paces and for those that missed the review, the full clip has just been uploaded to Top Gear’s YouTube channel.
Right off the bat, the veteran journalist says the Taycan Turbo S feels different than other all-electric performance cars on the market. He notes that the seating position is very low and the steering wheel is very familiar for a Porsche, immediately making the driver feel as though they are driving something far superior than most EVs.

Then there’s the performance. Powering the Taycan Turbo S are a pair of electric motors that combine to produce 750 hp and 774 lb-ft (1,050 Nm) of torque when Overboost is enabled. While the Tesla Model S Performance with the new ‘Cheetah Stance’ mode is a touch quicker off the line, the presence of a two-speed transmission means the Porsche is able to out-pace the Tesla at higher speeds.
It’s not just the straight-line performance that impresses Harris. The Taycan comes equipped with an advanced air suspension system which makes it ride extraordinarily well. In fact, Harris says it is easily the most comfortable Porsche he has ever driven. Adding to the appeal of the EV is the fact that it can charge up extraordinarily quickly (as long as you can find a quick-charger).
When hustled around the Top Gear test track by The Stig, the Taycan Turbo S set a time of 1:17.6, identical to the current Honda NSX and just 0.1 seconds slower than the Mercedes-AMG GT S.
