Elon Musk says Tesla will move its Californian headquarters to Texas and Nevada as the billionaire becomes increasingly frustrated with lockdown measures in California.
Taking to Twitter over the weekend, Musk said Tesla will file a lawsuit against Alameda County where its Fremont headquarters and factory are located due to their refusal to allow the Tesla factory to reopen last Friday because of the ongoing lockdown measures.

In a follow-up tweet, Musk said this was the final straw and that the electric automaker is done with California, BBC reports.
“Frankly, this is the final straw. Tesla will now move its HQ and future programs to Texas/Nevada immediately. If we even retain Fremont manufacturing activity at all, it will be dependen [sic] on how Tesla is treated in the future. Tesla is the last carmaker left in CA,” he wrote.
All but basic operations at Tesla’s Fremont plant near San Francisco have been suspended since March 23 due to ‘shelter in place’ orders enacted by Alameda County. This factory employs more than 10,000 workers and makes approximately 415,000 vehicles annually.

California’s government eased some restrictions across the state last week but the orders issued by Alameda County take precedence, hence why Tesla’s factory has been unable to resume normal operations. Tesla had been planning to allow a fraction of its factory workers to return to work by Friday but was warned by the Alameda County Health Department that such a move would be violating the county’s rules.
