On paper, the new Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 and Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat should be very evenly matched in a rolling drag race. However, this video proves that if you don’t have the skills needed to drive high-powered car like these, you really shouldn’t be racing one – and definitely not on public roads.

We’re not sure where this video was filmed but can see it features a Grabber Lime Mustang GT500 racing a Destroyer Grey Charger Hellcat along a wide-open piece of road.

Watch: Mustang Crashes Are A Global Phenomenon As This Indian Incident Proves

It seems apparent that the driver of the Hellcat had disabled traction control because as soon as they floor the throttle, the rear wheels start to spin and the car briefly kicks out its tail. However, the driver is able to bring it back in line by letting off the throttle. Seeing the Mustang charging off into the distance, the Hellcat driver quickly gets back on the throttle, spinning up the wheels for a second time and causing the car to slide off towards the right.

Then, the driver did the worst thing you could do in such a scenario; slammed on the brakes. This sends the Charger over a curb and into a grassy area in the process. We can also see the car take out a road sign.

The crash could have been easily avoided if the driver of the Hellcat simply let off the throttle as soon as the wheels started to spin up a second time, allowing the tires to regain traction. Of course, the crash could have also been avoided if the driver never took part in an illegal street race.

H/T to The Drive!
