Shortly after we shared the video of the 2021 Kia Stinger GT testing at the Nurburgring by YouTuber statesidesupercars earlier today, our man with the long lens sent over another batch of spy shots that we’ve added below the jump. [Updated]

While the Stinger sadly isn’t expected to survive through to a second-generation, Kia is going to the trouble of freshening it up for the 2021 model year with a series of updates. The presence of thick camouflage on this car makes it difficult to determine just what styling alterations will be made but we expect to see new headlight and taillight graphics, tweaked bumpers, and different wheel designs.

At least one new engine is also expected. While the current entry-level Stinger is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, the facelifted 2021 model may receive Hyundai’s new and more powerful 2.5-liter turbo engine. This powertrain delivers an impressive 290 hp and 310 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque, pronounced improvements over the 255 hp and 260 lb-ft (353 Nm) of the current engine.

For some time, there were suggestions the range-topping 3.3-liter V6 would also be dropped in favor of the brand’s new 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 but that no longer seems to be the case. Instead, the existing engine will be tuned to deliver slightly more than the current 365 hp and 376 lb-ft (510 Nm) of torque.

Given that the current 2.0-liter and 3.3-liter models look virtually identical, it’s difficult to say for sure just what engine this particular prototype is rocking. However, the lack of an exhaust note leads us to believe this could be the new 2.5-liter model.

The facelifted Kia Stinger is expected to land in 2021.
