The Sussex Police are on the hunt for an Audi driver who filmed themselves traveling at 201 mph (323 km) on public roads.
In an appeal, the department said the footage was taken on M23 southbound between Gatwick and Crawley. Police aren’t sure when the video was recorded, but they believed it happened sometime during the coronavirus lockdown.
That’s a reasonable assumption as lockdown orders have significantly reduced traffic. This has turned highways into a paradise for speeders.

Unsurprisingly, police are looking for the driver who was apparently driving an RS6 Avant. According to Chief Inspector Michael Hodder, of the Surrey and Sussex Roads Policing Unit, “We have a team of specialist roads policing officers who will fully investigate this footage with a view to identifying and bringing the driver to justice.”
Chief Inspector Hodder went on to call the video “one of the most appalling examples of dangerous and irresponsible driving we have ever seen in Sussex.” He added, “Driving at such grossly excessive speeds hugely increases the chances of being involved in a collision, and it’s extremely fortunate the driver has not killed or seriously injured themselves or someone else.”
The department noted there were 1,393 speed-related collisions in Sussex last year. This was the highest number recorded since 2009 and these collisions resulted in 315 serious injuries and 18 fatalities.
In a bit of a dystopian move, police are requesting the public’s assistance to bring speeders to justice. As the department explained, they have received a number of complaints since the lockdown began. People who observe speeding and other reckless behaviors are being directed to the Operation Crackdown website where they can report “anti-social driving.”
