A lovely 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona will be auctioned off later this month and is bound to attract quite a lot of interest from enthusiasts.

The original 1969 Daytona was introduced following the racing failure of the previous year’s Charger 500 that competed in NASCAR. Not discouraged by its poor performances in 1968, Dodge came up with the Charger Daytona the following year, produced with the sole purpose of winning. The car made its racing debut at the inaugural Talladega 500 and secured victory. It would go on to claim another race victory in 1969 and a further four the following year before being replaced by the 1970 Plymouth Superbird.

Just 503 examples of the 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona were ever produced. This particular car being sold by Mecum Auctions was sold new at Western Dodge in Marion, Indiana and looks to have been very well cared for over the decades.

The car includes its original broadcast sheet and window sticker and has previously undergone a ‘rotisserie’ restoration to return it to its former glory. The exterior is bathed in a shade known as deep R6 Red and the car also has its towering rear wing finished in white, a shade that continues in the rear portion of the bodywork that also has Daytona lettering in red.

Powering the car is a numbers-matching 440 Magnum V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor that produces 375 hp and is coupled to a TorqueFlite automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. While no pre-auction estimate has been published, the car can be expected to sell for somewhere in the six-figure mark.
