The C7 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and the current Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 are two of the most insane performance cars out of the United States in recent years and as this video proves, they are very evenly matched in a straight line.

Powering the Corvette ZR1 is a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 which, from the factory, churns out an almighty 755 hp at 6,300 rpm and 715 lb-ft (969 Nm) of torque at 4,400 rpm. However, the ZR1 featured has a touch more grunt up its sleeve thanks to a new upper pulley, catalytic converter delete, and is running on race gas.

Meanwhile, the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 runs a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 that is good for 760 hp and 625 lb-ft (847 Nm) of torque. In contrast to the ‘Vette, this Grabber Lime Mustang is said to be bone stock.

Given the fact that the Corvette has more power and is lighter, one could expect it to easily walk away with the win in a rolling drag race with the GT500. That was not the case, though, as the two were pretty much neck and neck in all the races.

So how come the Shelby GT500 match the mighty ZR1? One reason we can think of is that it has a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that shifts through the gears much faster than the older eight-speed automatic box used by the ZR1.
