Decades before Dodge revived the Demon name on the flagship variant of the Challenger, there was a potent variant of the 1971 Dodge Dart also known as the ‘Demon.’ In mid-July, a particularly desirable Dart Demon will cross the auction block.

This particular Dart Demon is a 1971 model and recently underwent a comprehensive restoration that was completed in 2016 and saw the car returned to its former glory.

The listing on Mecum Auctions reveals that as part of the restoration, the car’s standard engine has been replaced with a 440 cubic-inch CI V8 complete with Edelbrock aluminum heads, a 4-barrel carburetor, a Performer RPM intake, and a Be Cool radiator. Coupled to this upgraded engine is a TorqueFlite automatic transmission that sends its power to the pavement with American Racing wheels wrapped in Kumho Ecsta XS tires. Elsewhere, the battery has been relocated to the trunk and the factory gas tank has been replaced by an ATL racing fuel cell.

A host of other upgrades have been made to the car including new disc brakes at all four corners with a dual reservoir master cylinder. The Dart Demon also includes coilovers, a new front sway bar, Dana 60 rear end, and push-button start. The car has been driven less than 500 miles (804 km) since the restoration was completed.

Located in the cabin are leather-wrapped sport seats sourced from a Viper GTS, an AM radio, air conditioning, and wood-grain trim accents on the door panels, instrument cluster and center console.
