Ford has issued two safety recalls in North America that involve a massive 2.5 million vehicles.
The first campaign is also the biggest, as it affects approximately 2.15 million cars in the United States and federalized territories, and was announced over a door latch problem.
The automaker noted that the fractured pawl spring tab will prevent the door from closing, yet if it can be shut after repeated attempts, then it could open while driving, increasing the risk of injury.
The Dearborn company is unaware of any accidents or injuries related to this condition that affects the 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2012-2015 Focus, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2013-2015 Escape, 2013-2015 C-Max, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ and 2015 MKC.

These cars were previously recalled under the 15S16 and 16S30 campaigns to replace the door latches, yet not all of them were repaired correctly. As a result, “owners will be given the option to inspect the door latch date codes and child safety locks and submit latch date codes online to confirm if repairs done under safety recalls 15S16 and 16S30 were completed correctly.” The system will provide an instant answer, yet if some owners do not want or know how to perform the inspection, they will be assisted by dealers, who will replace the latches as needed, free of charge.
The second recall concerns the 2014-2017 Ford F-150, powered by the 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine. The trucks’ brake master cylinder could leak brake fluid from the front-wheel circuit into the brake booster, which would have a direct impact on the brake pedal. Should this happen, drivers will be warned via an audible chime, message-center alert and red brake warning indicator in the instrument cluster, and could also experience a change in brake pedal travel and feel.
The reduced brake function will increase the stopping distance, posing a safety hazard to other motorists and pedestrians. Ford is aware of 7 low-speed accidents with two injuries associated with this condition that counts 292,311 vehicles in the United States and federalized territories, 43,536 in Canada and 8,053 in Mexico. The fix will see technicians replace the brake master cylinder, at no cost to owners, and if it is leaking, then the brake booster will also be replaced.
