The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 needs no introduction. It sits at the upper end of the compact sports car class, has plenty of power to rock your world and is very fast.
The clock doesn’t lie, as it managed to beat some very big names at different circuits all over Europe, including the modern-day Honda NSX, Corvette Grand Sport, BMW M2 CS and Aston Martin Vantage.
As of last year, the 718 Cayman has added yet another name to that list: the new 991 Carrera S. So, why are we reporting on it just now? Because AutoBildSportsCars didn’t upload the video of the GT4 lapping the Lausitzring until earlier this week.

The 718 Cayman GT4 packs a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine, which comes paired to a six-speed manual transmission. It puts out 414 HP (420 PS / 309 kW) and 310 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque, which enable it to do the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.4 seconds and max out at 189 mph (304 km/h).
Surely the latest 992 Carrera S has to be less powerful, right? Actually no, as although it is powered by a smaller 3.0-liter six-cylinder unit, it features twin turbochargers and boasts 444 HP (450 PS / 331 kW). Even in rear-wheel drive form, it will sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) quicker than the Cayman GT4, in 3.7 seconds, and if given enough room, it will push up to 191 mph (308 km/h).
So, how did the tortoise beat the rabbit? We have a few answers to that question, which are related to the driver’s skills, the tires and the chassis set up of each car, but we’d better let you watch video instead.
