Most illustrations of the new-gen BMW 4-Series Coupe revolve around the huge double nostrils, err…sorry, kidney grilles, reshaping them in all sorts of different ways to calm internet keyboard warriors.

This one, however, couldn’t care less about the most polarizing part of the luxury sports coupe, as it left the grille untouched and focused on something completely different: imagining how the car would look like as a Shooting Brake, and we really mean a shooting brake, not just an estate with a sloping roofline.

If you ask us, it looks like it was inspired by the Z3 Coupe launched towards the end of the 1990s, a car that earned the nickname “Clown Shoe” due to its odd shape and proportions. From this angle, the car rendered by XTomi Design has a similar shape, albeit not as pronounced as the Z3 Coupe.

Compared to the regular 4 Series Coupe pictured above, it is virtually unchanged up to the B pillars, but the visual revolution takes place at the back, with the elongated roof over the backseat, which ends with a small wing right above the tailgate. For a more striking appearance, it was imagined with roof rails too, and we would’ve loved to see the back end as well, although this is the only illustration of the model in this form, for now at least.

Despite the controversial grille, which will probably end up growing on most buyers as the vehicle starts aging, the new 4-Series Coupe promises to be one of the more rewarding driver’s cars in the segment. It will launch worldwide in October, followed by the Convertible and Gran Coupe body styles, and will arrive in the United States with an MSRP of $46,595 for the rear-wheel drive 430i, powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four making 258 HP. The xDrive AWD system will be a $2,000 option and the initial range will be completed by the $59,459 M440i xDrive, with a 3.0-liter six-pot, rated at 369 HP.
