The latest in a long line of Mazda MX-5 limited editions for the UK, called the R-Sport, is detailed in a big photo gallery just as the new model has reached dealerships in the country.

Limited to just 150 Convertible examples, the Mazda MX-5 R-Sport is based on the 1.5-liter Sport model and brings unique styling inside and out. Exterior highlights include the new Polymetal Grey paint, unique 16-inch Rays gunmetal alloys, piano black mirror caps and a grey soft top.

Inside, passengers are treated with burgundy Nappa leather seats with silver stitching as well as all the other features offered by the regular 1.5-liter Sport trim level. Those include navigation, infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control, heated seats and climate control.

Power comes from the 1.5-liter Skyactiv-G naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine that makes 132 PS (130 HP) at 7,000 rpm and 152 Nm (112 lb-ft) of torque at 4,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a standard six-speed manual transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. Mazda’s i-Eloop kinetic recovery system and i-stop stop-start technology are standard too.

As with regular Sport models, the MX-5 R-Sport also benefits from extra standard safety equipment including Front Smart City Brake Support, Lane Departure Warning System, Rear Smart City Brake Support, Traffic Sign Recognition and Driver Attention Alert.

“When it comes to driver engagement, the current generation MX-5 has already established itself as a benchmark sports car, and with the 2020 Mazda MX-5, and now the R-Sport special edition, we continue to offer one of the most exciting and satisfying to drive cars money can buy,” said Jeremy Thomson, Mazda Motors UK managing director.

The 2021 Mazda MX-5 R-Sport is priced from £27,700 ($34,360) in the UK.
