Ford is hard at work developing the next-generation Ranger and it has emerged that the range-topping Raptor could be quite a weapon.
The current Ranger Raptor, introduced in 2018, has proven very popular despite being powered by a 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel four-cylinder engine with relatively little power and a towing capacity of just 2,500 kg (5,511 lbs). A new report claims that Ford will answer the call of enthusiasts wanting more power with two different engine options depending on the market.
A report from Car Advice claims that the next-generation Ranger Raptor will be outfitted with the same twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 petrol engine and 10-speed automatic transmission as the Ford Explorer ST, rated at 400 hp and 415 lb-ft (562 Nm) of torque. That will be more than enough power for the Ranger, but not quite enough to step on the toes of the Ford F-150 Raptor’s 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 which has 450 hp and 509 lb-ft (690 Nm).

Interestingly, there is no guarantee that all markets will receive this engine, as the 2022 Ranger Raptor may also be made available with Ford’s 3.0-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel V6 with 248 hp and 442 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque and also mated to a 10-speed transmission.
Beyond the two available engines, the 2022 Ranger Raptor will include custom Fox shocks, off-road tires, enlarged brakes and a wider track to enhance its off-roading abilities. It will also benefit from other upgrades found across the rest of the updated Ranger family, including new safety features and a more upmarket interior with larger digital displays.
