A handful of lucky journalists recently had the opportunity to test out the all-new BMW M3 and M4 in prototype guise and the German brand has just dropped a video that shows an M4 tester being put through its paces on a circuit.
Unlike its rivals from Audi Sport and Mercedes-AMG, the new M3 and M4 will still be available with six-speed manual transmissions. The M4 featured in this clip features that very six-speed stick shift and looks like an absolute joy to drive fast. Not only do we get a view from over the shoulder of the driver but BMW also mounted a camera in the footwell so we can see the driver expertly heel and toe downshifting in the sports car.

BMW has previously confirmed that the new M3 and M4 will feature the same 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine as the latest X3 M and X4 M. In standard guise this engine is good for 473 HP while it has been amped up to 503 HP for the Competition-badged variants.
As standard, base M3 and M4 models will be sold with rear-wheel drive while those opting for the M3 and M4 Competition will be able to select an xDrive all-wheel-drive system. The Competition models will also be sold exclusively with an eight-speed torque-converter automatic and not a stick shift.
After regular models hit the market, it is believed that driver-focused M3 Pure and M4 Pure models will land in showrooms and be sold exclusively with rear-wheel drive and a six-speed manual.
