The fourth-generation SEAT Leon is more diverse than ever, offering mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains for the first time, as well as the latest in infotainment and driver assist tech the VW Group has to offer.

It will continue to offer five-door hatchback and estate body styles, with even the Cupra Leon performance model being offered in both variants. However, there’s one model fans of the Spanish compact model will miss out on: the Leon X-Perience jacked-up wagon.

According to Spain’s Periodismo del Motor, a SEAT representative confirmed during a press presentation that there will be no new Leon X-Perience. Said model was introduced for the third-generation Leon, bringing a more rugged appearance via a raised ground clearance, plastic body cladding, and roof bars.

It also came with standard 4Drive all-wheel drive, which effectively made it an alternative to sister models like the VW Golf Alltrack and Skoda Octavia Scout. However, one has to realize that SEAT launched the Leon X-Perience at a time where it had no SUVs in its lineup.

Now, the Spanish brand has the Arona, Ateca and Tarraco (not to mention the Cupra Formentor). Actually, the recently-facelifted SEAT Ateca effectively replaces the Leon X-Perience, as the SUV has gained an Xperience (yes, the spelling has changed) trim level for the first time.

Interestingly, Skoda seems to have a different strategy as the Czech brand continues to offer the Octavia Scout despite the fact that its lineup includes three SUVs. As for the VW Golf, it remains to be seen whether the eighth-generation model will continue to offer an Alltrack model.
