The 2021 Ford Bronco is this week’s and probably this month’s most talked about vehicle so Jay Leno couldn’t find a better time to release a video of his own Bronco.
No, he didn’t buy the new model (at least as far as we know), although we’re sure Leno will get one if he wants to. We’re referring to the original Bronco, a 1968 model that had been sitting in Jay Leno’s larger-than-life garage for five years.
During one visit to Leno’s treasure trove, Ford Icons director Dave Pericak noticed the unrestored 1968 Bronco and asked the former talk show host if he wanted to make a project out of it.

Next thing you know, Jay ended up with a Ford Bronco powered by the Shelby Mustang GT500’s 5.2-liter supercharged V8 motor which makes 760 HP and 625 lb-ft (846 Nm) of torque. This is something only the famous car collector could pull through as the only way to get hold of the 760 HP 5.2-liter supercharged V8 is to buy a 2020 Mustang GT500.

Ford Performance made an exception for Jay and donated the mighty powertrain to his classic Bronco. As you can imagine, the supercharged V8 is not the only upgrade made to the 1968 Bronco restomod. Instead of the muscle car’s seven-speed DCT, Leno chose to match the V8 with a five-speed manual gearbox. The classic off-roader also received a custom paint from LGE-CTS, a Kincer chassis and a suspension upgrade with Fox shocks, among other things. Obviously, the interior has been rejuvenated as well and gained a leather upholstery and some modern amenities.
Unsurprisingly, the most important thing about Jay Leno’s 1968 Bronco restomod is the way it drives and the following video goes into detail about that. It also tells the funny story of how Jay got the car from fellow talk-show host Craig Ferguson, the previous owner of the classic off-roader.
