2020 Audi E-Tron Sportback Detailed As Electric Crossover Coupe Goes On Sale In U.S.

The Audi E-Tron Sportback is making its way to U.S. dealerships and pricing will start at $77,400 before federal, state and local incentives.

Essentially a crossover coupe version of the E-Tron, the Sportback features an enclosed grille which is flanked by standard LED headlights. The model also comes equipped with a panoramic glass sunroof, a power tailgate and 20-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the entry-level Premium Plus variant has a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch infotainment system with GPS navigation as well as support for wired Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay. The model also has a lower 8.6-inch display for climate control settings and convenience features.

Other highlights include heated / ventilated 12-way power front seats, heated rear seats and leather upholstery. Buyers will also find ambient interior lighting, wood trim and a four-zone automatic climate control system. Rounding out the highlights are illuminated door sill plates, a HomeLink garage door opener and a 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen 3D premium audio system.

On the safety front, the E-Tron Sportback has adaptive cruise assist with traffic jam assist, side assist and pre sense rear. Other safety features include front / rear acoustic sensors, rear cross traffic assist, active lane assist, traffic sign recognition and a bird’s eye camera.

The Prestige trim costs $83,400 and rewards buyers with additional equipment including a head-up display and 18-way power front seats with Valcona leather and a massage function. Other highlights include a leather-wrapped dashboard and an air quality system with an ionizer and aromatization. The model also has soft-close doors and rear sunshades.

Buyers looking for something more exclusive can order the Edition One variant that is limited to 200 units. Pricing starts at $88,495 and the model is distinguished by a unique exterior with S-line bumpers, orange brake calipers and 21-inch wheels. The crossover also has an exclusive Plasma Blue metallic paint job.

Interior changes are minor, but the special edition has Monaco Blue leather, a black headliner and two-tone stitching on the dashboard.

Regardless of which trim is selected, all Sportbacks have a 95 kWh battery pack that powers two electric motors. They give the crossover all-wheel drive as well as a combined output of 355 hp (265 kW / 360 PS) and 414 lb-ft (561 Nm) of torque.

However, there’s Boost Mode which temporarily increases the output to 402 hp (300 kW / 408 PS) and 490 lb-ft (664 Nm) of torque. This enables the crossover to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 5.5 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 124 mph (200 km/h).

Unfortunately, the model has an EPA-estimated range of just 218 miles (351 km). That means recharging will be a frequent occurrence, but thankfully the crossover has a charging capacity of 150 kWh. This can deliver approximately 58 miles (93 km) of range in 10 minutes and 174 miles (280 km) of range in 30 minutes.

Of course, most charging is done at home and Audi says a 240V Level 2 charger enables the Sportback to be fully replenished in approximately nine hours.

As an added bonus, buyers will receive 1,000 kWh of free charging at Electrify America stations nationwide. That’s approximately 2,500 miles (4,023 km) of worth range and owners have four years to use it.
