A host of details relating to the 2022 Audi A3 have been announced for the U.S. market, even though sales won’t start for another year.

Previously detailed in European guise, the all-new Audi A3 is available with two petrol engines and two diesel engines in the Old Continent. In the United States, however, Audi will only sell the 2022 A3 with a single powertrain, in the shape of a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder.

Power and torque details about this engine remain unclear but we know it will be available exclusively with a dual-clutch transmission and not available with the manual it can be coupled with in Europe.

Working alongside the 2.0-liter will be a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that will improve fuel economy with an estimate that it will save roughly 0.1 gallons of petrol per 62 miles (100 km) of driving. U.S. customers will have the option of front- or all-wheel drive. No other details specific to the U.S. model are known at this stage.

Like the updated A3 sold elsewhere, the car will use the automaker’s MQB Evo platform that means the new car is 40 mm (1.6 inches) longer than its predecessor while also being slightly wider and taller.

Inside, the car comes outfitted with a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel and a central 10.1-inch MMI touch display that is angled towards the drier. A large 12.3-inch instrument panel will be offered as an option. Among the various driver-assist systems to come with the A3 are Audi pre-sense front, adaptive cruise assist, efficiency assist, exit warning, and cross-traffic assist.

Further details about the U.S.-spec 2022 Audi A3 will likely be announced later this year or in early 2021.
