With the new generation of supercars launched these past few years, motoring enthusiasts seem to have forgotten about one of the all-time greats made in the U.S. of A.: the Saleen S7.

Produced in Irvine, California, by a company which is mostly known for tuning Mustangs, the two-door, rear mid-engined and rear-wheel drive machine came out back in 2000 and was kept on the assembly line until 2009.

The S7 initially packed a 7.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 mated to a six-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels, which led to a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) of around 3.3 seconds and a 220 mph (354 km/h) top speed.

Despite the jaw-dropping performance, Saleen eventually launched a twin-turbocharged version, which lifted the output to 750 HP, dropping the 0-60 mph time to well under 3 seconds.

An optional competition package for the S7 Twin Turbo was rolled out in 2006, and besides offering a staggering 1,000 HP, it also came with an upgraded suspension and revised apron and diffuser, though to enjoy the full force, one needed to get the optional aerodynamic package too.

Finding the perfect S7 to enjoy for years to come can be tricky, yet anyone in the market for such a model will need to check out Mecum’s Kissimmee Summer Special 2020, which runs between August 27 and 29, as that’s where the pictured 2004 example will be sold. The auction house claims that it is a one-owner car and one of 3 finished in Beryllium, upping the ante by stating that it has a whopping 1,212 HP available on tap and a 5-speed sequential transmission.

No estimated selling price has been provided, although it should prove to be one expensive ride.
