The VLF Force 1 is one of the most intriguing cars to come out of the U.S. in recent years, and one of the five examples built is currently up for auction.

VL Automotive was founded by Bob Lutz and Gilbert Villarreal back in 2012, but changed its name to VLF Automotive when Henrik Fisker joined in 2016. The company decided to take the iconic Dodge Viper and try to make it even better.

Immediately making the Force 1 stand out are the striking looks. The car’s body is made entirely from carbon fiber and, with Fisker responsible for the design, the finished product makes the Viper seem somewhat tame by comparison.

The Gooding & Company listing for this example reveals that it is the first of just five examples built. It is finished in a shade of Midnight Blue and sits on silver wheels, while the cabin is clad in red and black Nappa leather, suede, and Alcantara. It has only ever been driven for 1,370 miles (2,204 km) and is estimated to sell for between $275,000 and $325,000.

While VLF could have simply taken a Viper, fitted some custom bodywork and call it a day, the company instead altered the Viper’s 8.4-liter naturally-aspirated V10 with modified cylinders and a new camshaft so it now pumps out 745 hp and 638 lb-ft (865 Nm) of torque. This engine is coupled to a six-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels and, according to VLF, the Force 1 can hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3 seconds and reach 218 mph (351 km/h).
