The McLaren Senna is one of the most remarkable track-focused road-legal cars ever manufactured, and Automobile Magazine recently had the opportunity to put it through its paces.
McLaren is building just 500 examples of the Senna and this particular example is rather special. For starters, it is a media car that will be taken across the United States and tested by various media outlets. Not only that, but it was actually specced out by the staff at Automobile Magazine.

The first aspect of this Senna that really makes it stand out is the Amethyst Black paint. In certain lighting, it looks just like any other shade of black, but under the sun, it sparkles in a deep shade of purple that suits the Senna perfectly. In addition, it has been equipped with a host of matte carbon fiber parts, gold wheels, and some gold accents. In the interior, it even features the Automobile Magazine logo embroidered on the headrest.
Immediately after the car arrived in the United States, it was taken to the NCM Motorsports Park and put through its paces – and boy did it perform.
With sports car racing driver Andy Pilgrim behind the wheel, the Senna recorded a best lap time of 2:02.83 in cold conditions. That time is well ahead of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS with its best time of 2:03.75 and the third-fastest car lapped by Automobile at the track, a Porsche 911 GT3 RS that posted a 2:04.34.
