The driver and passenger of a BMW 7-Series have been arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase through the San Fernando Valley in California.

It is understood that the chase started at around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday near the Newhall Pass, although it is unclear what exactly prompted the pair to flee.

During the chase, the BMW reached speeds exceeding 100 mph (160 km/h) on the southbound 5 Freeway. Before long, police pulled back and went into tracking mode and a media helicopter kept tabs on the car.

At one stage, the driver and passenger may have thought they had escaped as they could be seen driving at the speed limit alongside other motorists. In a Burbank neighborhood, the male passenger and female driver switched places. The female was then spotted seemingly taking a photo of the helicopter following them.

While driving through the Burbank and North Hollywood area, the driver of the black BMW 7-Series swerved to the right and slammed into a row of parked cars. The car flipped onto its roof but that didn’t stop the male and female as they then ran from the scene. Unfortunately for them, the ABC7 media helicopter, an LAPD helicopter, and an LAPD ground unit kept tabs on them and quickly caught them.

Paramedics were called to the scene to evaluate the suspects. It remains unclear what charges they are facing but they could conceivably be facing some serious penalties.
