Earlier this month, Corvette Racing unveiled a special pace car that will be used to lead the pack at the IMSA GTLM Championship round at Road America. Now, there are reports that there may be a little more than meets the eye with this pace car.
In March, leaked information provided to dealerships about the 2021 model year Corvette made mention of a ‘Stingray R’ theme package for the mid-engined sports car. Little was known about what this package would include but the Stingray pace car may actually be rocking this graphics package.
As noted by Motor 1, the white 2021 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray pace car has a racing strip running down the hood and over the roof. It also has the short-lived aero package that consists of a new front splitter and side skirts. Red accents can also be found on this splitter, the side skirts, the rear wing endplates, and the wing mirrors, all in a bid to make the road-going Corvette closely mimic the look of the C8.R race car.

However, most telling is the fact that the Corvette pace car has a ‘Stingray R’ sticker on the front splitter. One final detail we noticed is the inclusion of two small LED lights incorporated within the front grille.
Based on the looks of the pace car as well as previously leaked information about the Corvette Stingray R, it seems apparent it will be limited to visual modifications and will not include any performance modifications.
If the Stingray R package does indeed launch for the 2021 model year, we should see it revealed in the coming weeks or months.
