Earlier in the year, Papadakis Racing previewed an epic Toyota Supra drift car it was building for driver Fredric Aasbø. Work on the car recently wrapped up and the guys over at Hoonigan have had the opportunity to check it out in person.
The first point of interest is the engine. While the racing team could have simply removed the standard Supra engine and swapped in a tried and tested LS V8, it instead decided to modify the car’s 3.0-liter inline-six. The engine has been tuned so it now reliably pumps out 1,000 hp, with key upgrades including new rods, pistons, cylinder head studs, exhaust cam, valve springs and a new Borg Warner turbocharger, among others.

The Supra’s suspension and braking systems have also been overhauled. For stopping power, the racing team turned to Stoptech and are using a set of enlarged calipers and rotors at both the front and rear. The rear is particularly interesting as there are two brake calipers at each corner. One of them is activated with the foot brake, while the other by the hydraulic handbrake.
The exterior of the Japanese sports car has also been modified, and it now sports flared front and rear wheel arches as well as a set of aftermarket wheels.
Inside, all unnecessary parts have been stripped away and the drift car is rocking an 8-point roll cage. There is also a simple three-spoke steering wheel, a bucket racing seat, and a digital info display.
