Saturn used to bill themselves as “a different kind of car company,” but someone took that to heart and created a different kind of car.

Posted on Craigslist and noticed by Redditors, this modified Saturn SL is barely recognizable as it more closely resembles a lunar roving vehicle than an affordable sedan.

As you can see, the body has been stripped away and the only remains of it are sections of the doors. The roof and hood have also been removed, and the interior is largely gutted. However, the vehicle still retains its seats, steering wheel and instrument cluster.

Despite the extensive makeover, the vehicle still runs and is street legal. Even the seller noted the absurdity of that as they stated “To be honest, I take this ridiculous somehow ‘legal’ thing to the grocery store.”

The listing doesn’t go into too many specifics, but the project is based on a 2000 SL1 and features a four-cylinder engine with 195,000 miles (313,822 km) on it. The seller says the engine “run great” and noted they’re throwing in a turbocharger.

While the car looks pretty cool as is, the original idea was to apparently part out the Saturn and use the components to build an off-road buggy. The frame for the buggy is included in the $1,300 (£992 / €1,097) asking price and the seller joked “Ever wanted a convertible? Too expensive, not anymore!”
