For a good few years, the Tesla Model S was virtually untouchable when it came to straight-line acceleration. However, since the arrival of the Porsche Taycan, the Tesla has lost its crown.
Sure, we’ve already seen our fair share of drag races between the Model S and the Taycan, but this clip settles the rivalry once and for all, revealing which of the two is quickest.
The Tesla used in this clip is the latest Model S Performance ‘Raven’ model with the Cheetah Stance launch control system, while the Taycan is the flagship Turbo S. In terms of figures, the Tesla has the advantage, with its two electric motors delivering 794 hp and 1,013 lb-ft (1,373 Nm) of torque. By comparison, the Taycan Turbo S is good for 751 hp and 774 lb-ft (1,050 Nm).

In the first race, it is the Porsche that gets faster off the line and, as the speeds continue to increase, the Taycan Turbo S gently stretches out its advantage, clearly helped by the fact it has a two-speed transmission. In the second race, the Tesla gets a slightly better launch but, for the second time, the Porsche starts to sprint ahead as the speeds increase.
A handful of rolling races are also held. Interestingly, the Tesla has the advantage at lower speeds but, once again, it is the Porsche that proves impossible to beat. Last but not least is a braking test, which the Taycan also manages to win.
