Netflix will produce an eight-part biopic series about the life and career of Formula 1 legend Ayrton Senna.

The series, which will come from Brazilian film producer Fabiano Gullane, has the approval of the Senna family and will detail Ayrton’s motorsport life from his arrival in England for his first season of Formula Ford 1600 and culminating with his death at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.

“It is very special to be able to announce that we will tell the story that only a few people know about him,” Ayrton Senna’s sister Viviane said in a statement. “The Senna family is committed to making this project something totally unique and unprecedented. And no one better than Netflix, that has a global reach, to be our partner.”

“Senna is the type of person we need. A young man that fought for his dream and faced many obstacles in order to represent a nation. Senna unites Brazil,” added Fabiano and Caio Gullane.

It remains unclear who will portray Senna in the series but it will be shot in both English and Brazilian Portuguese. The childhood home in Sao Paulo that Senna grew up in will also be featured. The series is set to premiere in 2022.

Senna famously won both the British and European Formula Ford 2000 championships in 1982 before progressing to the British Formula Three Championship. The Brazilian made his Formula 1 debut in 1984 racing for the Toleman Motorsport Team. In 1988, he joined the Honda Marlboro McLaren team and secured his first F1 world championship. He went on to win the 1990 and 1991 championships.
