If you needed more proof that VW is doubling down on its strategy to launch as many SUVs as possible, both large and small, you’ll find this teaser image quite convincing.
The German carmaker has decided to tease us with the arrival of a brand new compact crossover, set to slot underneath the Tiguan. Its reveal date has already been set for October 13th, 2020, and yes, it will be coming to America.
“We’re excited to share the first glimpse of the newest member of the Volkswagen family,” said Scott Keogh, president and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America. “Great things come in small packages, as Volkswagen has proven throughout the years with its iconic Beetle, Golf and Jetta. This next car will be no exception.”

Seen as how VW currently doesn’t sell any crossovers smaller than the Tiguan in the United States, we can assume that this upcoming model could just as well be T-Roc or even T-Cross-sized, although something the size of the T-Cross might actually be too small for the U.S.
The visual does tell us a little bit about this upcoming model’s aesthetics, at least as far as the front fascia is concerned. The hood features relatively wide creases on both sides, while the LED daytime running lights actually resemble those of the Tiguan a little bit – apart from that light bar flanking the VW emblem, like it does in the ID.3.
While we can only speculate as to possible powertrain configurations, if this was an electric crossover, the German carmaker would have definitely made a bigger deal of it, so we’re betting on gasoline as its no.1 dish, but it could also be a hybrid of sorts.
What’s certain is that there are plenty of crossovers in the U.S. smaller than the Tiguan that VW should look to compete against – from the Honda HR-V to the Hyundai Kona or the Mazda CX-3.
