The owner of a freshly-delivered 2021 GMC Yukon recently discovered that their new SUV had a mismatched liftgate.
Taking to a Facebook group, the owner of the Yukon confirmed that the exterior of their SUV is painted Summit White but inexplicably, the tailgate is painted in White Frost Tintcoat, a $1,095 option that has a metallic finish, GM Authority notes.

General Motors builds the new Yukon at its Arlington Assembly plant in Texas but somehow the SUV left the factory without anyone noticing the mismatched liftgate. Not even the dealership picked up on the issue, or so it may seem. Even the driver claims they drove around for three weeks wondering if the liftgate was supposed to be a different shade to the rest of the vehicle.
It is unclear exactly how this GMC Yukon ended up with a liftgate that doesn’t match the rest of the SUV.
Commenters over at GM Authority write that all of the body parts are painted at the same time at the factory, meaning it is unlikely that one part was painted in the wrong color. Instead, it is possible that the part was damaged while being transported or while under the possession of the dealership. It’s then possible that the dealer’s painter used the wrong color code for the repair or perhaps ordered a replacement tailgate in the wrong shade of white.
Whatever the reason, this is an embarrassing mistake for the car manufacturer and one that needs to be quickly resolved, if it hasn’t been already.
