VW has taken all the good things from the acclaimed Golf R and put them into Tiguan R, making for an SUV with an extremely impressive performance that looks like lots of fun to drive.

Much like the Mk 7 Golf R, the Tiguan R is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 316 hp and 310 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque. This engine is coupled to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive. Adding further to the performance of the punchy SUV is a torque vectoring system that shuffles power between the left and right rear wheels.

Automann-TV recently had the opportunity to test out the new Tiguan R on the Autobahn and was able to achieve some very impressive figures.

Off the line, the SUV needed just 4.8 seconds to sprint from naught to 62 mph (100 km/h). What makes that figure more impressive is that it was done in damp conditions, showing just how well the SUV’s all-wheel drive system and torque vectoring work to send power to the ground. Like the Golf R, the Tiguan R also has an excellent launch control system and, were the conditions dry, we have no doubt it would have been even quicker.

The reviewer also tested the new VW from 100 km/h to 200 km/h (62 mph – 124 mph) and required 14.1 seconds to make it happen. Again, very impressive and more than quick enough for most SUV buyers.
