Surf’s Up: Classic Land Rover Defender Gears Up For The Beach

The old Land Rover Defender has, once again, been the subject of a comprehensive tuning job signed by East Coast Defender.

Dubbed the Project CL, the Aries Blue off-roader boasts the typical makeover that the Florida company has gotten us used to over the years, with an open-top view of the sky above, steel bumpers with front winch, overfenders and a set of 18-inch Kahn 1983 wheels finished in satin black and shod in BFGoodrich all-terrain tires.

The interior has been reupholstered in beige leather, with diamond quilting on the seats. The SUV has a 2+4 seating layout, meaning two full-sized seats at the front and another four inward-facing jump seats at the back that give it a summery vibe. There is a Puma dashboard, wrapped in leather, with a modern infotainment system from Sony on deck, as well as custom silver gauges and Momo wood steering wheel with three silver spokes.

As it is often the case with most of ECD’s projects, this one uses a powerful 6.2-liter V8. The LS3 works in conjunction with an automatic transmission, channeling output to the four-wheel drive system. Other mechanical upgrades over the stock Defender 90 include Brembo brakes, which improve the stopping power, and a custom air ride suspension.

The American tuner hasn’t divulged the pricing of the Project CL, but interested customers can reach out to them. It is worth noting though that their builds usually cost between $100,000 and well over $200,000, depending on the amount of work that went into them.
