Acura has announced plans to introduce the MDX Prototype on October 14th.
Designed to preview the next-generation crossover, the model promises to usher-in new levels of “Acura design, performance, technology and craftsmanship.”
The company is keeping details under wraps, but the teasers show the model will follow in the footsteps of the TLX and adopt an edgier design. The front end is dominated by a diamond pentagon grille which is flanked by Jewel Eye LED headlights and sporty air intakes.

The crossover also features a panoramic glass roof, a sharply sculpted beltline and wraparound LED taillights. Acura also said the model is lower and longer than its predecessor.
While the teasers aren’t very revealing, they look almost identical to images that were discovered over a year ago. This bodes well for the crossover as it suggests Acura’s description of the MDX being their “most ambitious redesign ever” isn’t just marketing fluff.
Like the TLX, the MDX is expected to have a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 272 hp (203 kW / 276 PS) and 280 lb-ft (379 Nm) of torque. It should be connected to a ten-speed automatic transmission which can be paired to an optional super handling all-wheel drive system.
We can also expect a Type S variant with a turbocharged 3.0-liter engine pumping out approximately 355 hp (265 kW / 360 PS) and 354 lb-ft (480 Nm) of torque.
Regardless of the final numbers, Acura confirmed the MDX will assume the “mantle as the brand’s new flagship model.” That’s not too surprising as the NSX is halo car and the RLX is being dropped in North America at the end of the year.
