Stopping at a red light should be relatively risk-free. but as this video shows, things can quickly turn upside down in dramatic fashion.

This dashcam footage was recently captured in Hemet, California, and shows the moment the driver of a white Hyundai Elantra slammed into the rear of a Toyota Tundra waiting at a red light.

As the cammer approaches the red light, the Tundra can be seen stopped at the light approximately 100 feet away. All of a sudden, a white Hyundai Elantra speeds past the cammer and smashes into the rear of the pickup truck. The force of the impact lifts the rear of the pickup off the ground and pushes it into the intersection.

Vision captured after the crash shows that the entire front end of the Hyundai has been destroyed and smoke can be seen pouring out of the engine. We can’t view the rear of the pickup as clearly, but we can see that the bed has been damaged and the rear axle appears to have been pushed forward.

What caused the crash? Clearly, the driver of the Hyundai is to blame for the crash and this dashcam vision shows that the driver never once applied the brakes as they were speeding towards the Tundra. The most obvious reason for the poor driving could be due to the simple fact that the Hyundai driver was distracted and wasn’t looking ahead, although there’s also the possibility they suffered from some kind of medical episode.
