While both the Lamborghini Aventador and Huracan are getting a little long in the tooth, they remain among the finest supercars currently on sale.
As the Aventador SVJ sits at the top of Lamborghini’s range (excluding the limited-run SCV12), one would think that it would also be the quickest. But is that the case?
To find out, CarWow brought out an Aventador SVJ and a Huracan Performante Spyder to its airfield for a series of performance tests. In the most competitive of the drag races held, it is the junior Lamborghini that actually gets off the line better, thanks to its superior traction and dual-clutch transmission. By comparison, the Aventador is notorious for spinning up its rear wheels even when traction control is enabled.

However, thanks to the added grunt of the SVJ’s screaming 6.5-liter V12, it is soon able to speed past the Huracan and ultimately finish the quarter-mile in 10.4 seconds. By comparison, the Performante needed 10.6 seconds.
A rolling race is then held and it is the most interesting. With the transmissions in their automatic mode, the Huracan’s dual-clutch shifts down significantly faster than the single-clutch ‘box of the Aventador, allowing it to sprint off into the distance. It was only when speeds exceeded 160 mph (257 km/h) that the SVJ was able to get past the Huracan.
Last, but not least, is a braking test between the two where, given the lower weight of the Huracan, it is no surprise that it easily beats its older and bigger sibling.
