The Ferrari SF90 Stradale has set a new road-legal production car record around the Top Gear test track.

Featured on the first episode of Top Gear’s 29th season, the SF90 Stradale proved itself to be a fitting halo car from the Italian automaker. With The Stig behind the wheel, it set a best time of 1:11.3, beating out the previous record of 1:12.7 held by the Ferrari 488 Pista.

A time of 1:11.3 is nothing short of extraordinary. Not only is it significantly quicker than the 488 Pista but it is also much faster than The Stig’s best lap time in a Porsche 911 GT2 RS of a 1:13.4. Top Gear never lapped the Holy Trinity of hybrid hypercars around its test track so it’s impossible to say how the SF90 Stradale compares. However, with Jason Plato behind the wheel, a LaFerrari recorded a best time of 1:14.20 a few years ago.

Watching the SF90 Stradale storm around the track really is a sight to behold. Not only does it sound the business but it rockets off the line and takes corners at simply dizzying speeds.

Key to the SF90 Stradale’s performance is its powertrain. Slotted under the sleek bodywork is a mid-mounted 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 769 hp and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. This engine is complemented by an electric motor mounted between the V8 and the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and two further electric motors at the front axle to produce a total of 986 hp.
